Glendowie College has a formidable academic reputation as one of the top schools in New Zealand. Its students achieve excellence inside and outside the classroom. All students are stimulated to the greatest possible academic, creative and co-curricular achievement. The Well Being of our students is a priority throughout the school.

Our results clearly show that life at Glendowie College gives young men and women an outstanding preparation to go out into the World. In the Senior School, Glendowie College offers a wide range of academic and vocational NCEA courses that prepares students for tertiary study at University. In the Junior School we aim to provide a broad education base for our students, which is taught through the International Baccalaureate Middle Year Programme (MYP).

Student participation in co-curricular activities – sports, arts and leadership – is central to the all-round balanced education which Glendowie College provides. We encourage the exploration of a wide range of cultural, arts, sports, service and community activities. Involvement in music, art and drama underpins a culture of creativity, innovation and excellence.

Our philosophy for sports is based on participation and enjoyment and also high performance. Many of our extensive range of sports teams compete at high levels across New Zealand. Glendowie College continues to be one of the leading participants in school sports within the greater Auckland region.

There are also many opportunities to develop leadership and community service skills through activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Interact Club (Rotary), the Environment Group, Peer Support and many more.

Glendowie College is a global learning community. We run an extensive and highly successful international student programme, with students coming from many countries around the world.  It is important to us that international students and local New Zealand students enjoy interacting with a broad range of cultures, helping them to develop as global citizens.

We believe that students who succeed in life are happy with themselves and in their environment. We also believe that students benefit greatly from an all-round education and that our students should be busy, happy, successful, and resilient and this is supported by our Pastoral Care Programme. In addition, all students participate in the whole school Well Being Programme.

Our outstanding Pastoral Care Programme supports all aspects of our students’ school life. This includes an on-going orientation and buddy programme that ensures students are well looked after during the initial settling in period, liaison with homestays to make sure that students are settled and happy, and regular interviews with students. In addition, students are mentored to support their academic progress and given career counselling to aid students to achieve their goals for the future.
